About the template

Meal Planner

Meal Planner is a complete iPhone app template for organizing breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks on a date-based meal calendar. Users can generate personalized recipes with AI or build recipes manually, then save favorites, update plans, and view detailed cooking instructions and macros.

The AI generator uses OpenAI GPT-4o to create structured recipes from ingredients, servings, dietary and protein preferences, and allergy information. OpenAI gpt-image-1 creates a food photo for each AI recipe. SwiftData stores recipes and images locally, while Swift Charts powers weekly macro statistics, goal tracking, and ingredient insights. The project also includes credits, premium purchases, and AdMob monetization.

Requirements

What do I need to get started?

You will need a Mac computer with Xcode 15+ installed. This app requires iOS 17+. All app templates on this website are for iPhones, with no iPad support. You will need an OpenAI API account and API key for GPT-4o recipe generation and gpt-image-1 food photos. An AdMob account is required if you want to show ads in the app. To use the included credit packs and premium subscription, configure your own in-app purchase products in App Store Connect. OpenAI API usage and any third-party service costs are separate from the template purchase. No Firebase setup is required.

How it works

How does it work?

  • Plan meals by date. The Home tab shows a scrollable date header and separate breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack tiles. Users can open a recipe, remove meals by type, or copy today's plan to another date.
  • Generate a recipe with AI. Users select a meal type, specify ingredients and servings, choose dietary and protein preferences, and optionally enter allergies. GPT-4o returns a recipe with its title, description, ingredients, steps, cooking time, and estimated calories, protein, carbs, and fat.
  • Create matching food photos. After the recipe is generated, OpenAI gpt-image-1 creates a matching food photo. An AI recipe generation uses one in-app credit.
  • Add and edit recipes manually. The manual form supports ingredients, numbered instructions, cooking time, servings, and swipeable macro sliders. Users can select a photo from their library or generate one with AI for one credit.
  • Save, favorite, and reschedule. Recipe details include the food photo, macro summary, ingredients, and cooking steps. Users can edit or delete recipes, save favorites, and move a meal to another date. SwiftData keeps the recipes and images on device.
  • Explore weekly statistics. Swift Charts displays daily macro totals and goal-completion rings. Users can select a day, view weekly averages, adjust daily goals, and see the five most-used ingredients with Premium.
  • Credits, premium, and ads. Users start with five free credits. The app includes three consumable credit packs (25, 75, or 115 credits), a premium subscription to unlock all features and remove ads, and AdMob interstitials for non-premium users.
  • PurchaseKit integration. In-App Purchases are handled via PurchaseKit.xcframework. The included project provides consumable credit packs and a premium subscription flow. Configure your own product IDs and App Store Connect products before publishing. Premium unlocks all features and removes interstitial ads.
Opportunities

Opportunities for you

Meal Planner is a starting point for your own AI recipe generator, meal planning, or nutrition-focused iOS app. You could specialize it in high-protein meals, budget cooking, meal prep, plant-based diets, or family meal planning, while adapting the prompts, recipe categories, branding, and monetization to your audience.

There is also room to add features such as grocery-list generation, pantry inventory, meal reminders, or additional nutrition integrations. These are possible customizations, not features included in the supplied template.
