Photo Past
With the power of Replicate API, Photo Past restores and colorizes your old photographs—repairing damage, removing imperfections, and bringing memories back to life. A small developer from Romania built FixMyPics, an old photo restoration app that earns around $40,000 per month . It’s a highly profitable niche, with a clear, easy-to-reach audience—primarily older users who are likely to have cherished photos in need of restoration.
You will get the complete source code for the Photo Past app as seen in the video demo. Nothing more or less than what the demo shows. This app is compatible with the latest version of Xcode and SwiftUI. The included project supports iOS 16+ and integrates Firebase for temporary photo storage, along with the Replicate API for AI-powered restoration and optional colorization. History management, premium upgrades, and ad integration are already built in. All image assets and UI elements are bundled locally for easy customization.
What do I need to get started?
You will need a Mac computer with Xcode 15+. This app requires iOS 16+. All templates on this website are for iPhones without iPad support. An AdMob account is necessary if you want to show ads in the app. We provide basic PDF documentation on how to replace the AdMob Interstitial Ad identifiers, the in-app purchase product identifiers, and your Replicate API key. A configured Firebase project is required for photo uploads.
How does it work?
- In the main flow, users select a photo from their library.
- The photo is uploaded to Firebase, and its URL is sent to the Replicate API for AI restoration.
- Premium users get an additional AI colorization step for black & white photos.
- While processing, users see a before/after preview with a progress indicator.
- Restored images can be saved directly to the Photos app and are also stored in the in-app History tab.
- History photos are stored locally on the device and can be deleted individually or in bulk.
- A one-time in-app purchase removes ads, and unlocks colorization after restoration.
- Each restored image deducts one credit/coin from the user’s balance, ensuring controlled usage.
- Users can purchase additional credits/coins at any time via consumable in-app purchases.
- The restoration API currently costs approximately $0.04 per image, so pricing your in-app purchase packs strategically is key to maintaining healthy profit margins.
- In-App Purchases are handled via a private framework. This framework doesn't support subscriptions. You can use this framework for any other games/apps you want to add in-app purchases.
